STARWARD COMMUNITY CARE FOUNDATION

The Starward Community Care Foundation is focused on helping the woman and children of Hamilton and surrounding area, from all walks of life, live their best life.

With health, safety, education, and growth in mind, we’ve partnered with distinguished organizations who share the same vision and goals – Hamilton Health Sciences and the Midwifery Ward, YWCA Hamilton, Neighbour to Neighbour and the Ancaster Memorial Arts Centre – facilitating a wide platform of initiatives and programs that support all areas of women and children’s lives.

Our goal is to create a strong, vibrant community that people love to call home, and women and children’s health, safety, education and opportunity are integral to this.

Starward Homes, a hallmark homebuilder in the Hamilton and surrounding area for well over 100 years, has a long history of not just building beautiful homes and well-designed communities, but supporting the very institutions that support the people who live in our communities.

The launch of the Starward Community Care Foundation in 2022 allows us to strategize and align our goals in a more meaningful way to achieve long term success for our community.

ABOUT OUR PARTNERSHIPS

Midwifery Care Unit (MCU) at Hamilton Health Sciences (McMaster Kids)

The Midwifery Care Unit works in partnership with Labour and Delivery and is a place for midwives to provide care to expecting parents throughout labour, birth, and the immediate postpartum period.

This unit is specifically designed to support the many ways individuals may want to give birth, including being upright or immersed in water. The unit is supported by Hospitalist Midwives as well as the Labour and Delivery team. If complications or emergencies arise, additional services are provided in collaboration with an interprofessional team including nursing, obstetrics, and neonatology. The goal? To provide families with a safe and supported birth experience.

YWCA Hamilton

YWCA Hamilton is part of a national and international network for Gender and Equity.

The YWCA Hamilton was there when women were advocating for the right to vote, for reproductive rights, for maternity leave, we were there when the first women’s shelters were opened.

Since then, YWCA Hamilton has been a strong voice, advocating for gender equity locally and through an affiliation with YWCA Canada and the World YWCA. YWCA Hamilton knows that a holistic approach is needed to achieve women’s equity.

YWCA Hamilton advances social justice for women and gender-diverse people through a range of programs, services, supports and advocacy, and is dedicated to:

Neighbour to Neighbour

For 35 years, a team of dedicated staff and volunteers at Neighbour to Neighbour Centre have been helping to improve our neighbourhood and meeting the issue of food insecurity head on.

What started as a tiny food bank has evolved into an indispensable part of this community’s social fabric. Neighbour to Neighbour works to improve the quality of life in our community by offering access to tutoring programs for children, community kitchen programs, utility subsidy programs, family counselling, emergency food access and a host of other interventions. Neighbour to Neighbour is empowering people with the tools and ideas that will help change their lives.
